Here at Coldstream Holiday Park, we feel genuinely privileged about our unique position. Sitting right on the border between Scotland and England, we are in the fortunate spot of being just an hour’s drive from both the heart of Edinburgh and the centre of Newcastle.
We love serving families from the Scottish Central Belt and the North of England equally. Over the years, we’ve come to see one of the biggest benefits of our location, especially in autumn: your school holidays are on completely different dates! This year, the main Scottish break runs over a week earlier than the English one. Instead of one single frantic rush, this creates a wonderfully vibrant, extended autumn season for everyone.
More importantly, it creates a unique opportunity for you to escape the crowds.
Because the two October half terms don’t overlap, you get a special advantage. Whichever week you book to stay with us, you get to explore the other side of the border during its quiet, off-peak term time.
It’s the best of both worlds: all the fun and atmosphere of a half-term holiday at the park, combined with the peace and quiet of term-time visits to renowned attractions.
To help you plan, we’ve created two separate event communities, one for each holiday break where we will be sharing local events:
When your schools break up, you can be the first to enjoy the crisp autumn air and fantastic scenery.
This is your perfect chance to head south and explore Northumberland’s world-class attractions—like Alnwick Castle, Bamburgh, or Holy Island—completely free of the usual half-term queues, as all the English schools are still in.

As your half term begins on October 27th, there’s a full week of autumn and Halloween fun waiting for you.
This is your opportunity to head north and explore the stunning Scottish Borders. You’ll get a clear run at the region’s beautiful market towns, historic abbeys, and breathtaking country walks, all while the Scottish schools are fully back in session.

We look forward to welcoming families from both sides of the border for an unforgettable (and relaxing!) autumn escape.
