Our ‘Taste of Berwickshire’ Road Trip

A day spent exploring around our beautiful region will definitely whet the appetite for some delicious local food and drink.

From cosy pub lunches to award winning pies, seasonal hampers to fish and chips by the harbour, we have some of the finest food producers in the country on our doorstep and something for everyone to enjoy. Here are just some of some of our favourites.

THE RIVERSIDE BAKEHOUSE

The Riverside Bakehouse is a small bakery and cafe located in rural hamlet of Abbey St Bathans near Duns.

Handcrafted small batches of slowly fermented sourdough bread made in a time honoured way using the power of the wild yeasts. The Cafe also offers a range of delicious seasonal cakes, soups and salads with focus on local produce.

THE ALLANTON INN

Set in the centre of the peaceful conservation village of Allanton, The Allanton Inn is a charming coaching inn dating from the eighteenth century. Delicious, seasonal local food and award winning local produce.

Champions of fine local Borders produce such as Preston Farm Beetroot and Standhill Tomatoes from Denholm. Local farmer, butcher & friend, Adam, supplies pork products from Reivers Foods. Organic free range eggs, freshly laid two miles away at Edington Mains, and honey from the Robson family at the Chain Bridge Honey Farm. Fresh fish is caught or landed locally at Eyemouth and delivered daily. We make our own bread daily using flour milled locally at Heatherslaw Mill. We have a good selection of Northumbrian and Scottish Cheeses to choose from. Our desserts are all home-made although we do source the best award winning ice cream from Giacopazzis in Eyemouth.

Jarvis Pickle manufacture award winning pies in Eyemouth, you can buy them here at the Food Store along with many other local and speciality products.

Good food from the Scottish Borders. We make pies and we’ve been told they’re pretty tasty – traditional meat, fish, vegetarian and vegan filled pastry pockets.

We’ve won 30 British Pie Awards in our three years attending. Including Champion Fish Class 2018 with our Cullen Skink Pie, Best Meat Pie Scotland 2018 with our Pork and Blue Cheese Pie, Champion Vegetarian Class 2019 with our Spinach, Goat Cheese and Sweet Potato Pie and Champion Steak and Kidney 2020 with our Steak and Kidney Pie. THE BLACK BULL

This family run 200-year-old hotel is well worth seeking out. The cosy wood panelled bar is popular with locals while the lounge is well suited to families. The restaurant specialises in fresh local sourced produce and has an intimate, relaxed and candlelit atmosphere. The secluded beer garden has a gazebo and play area and can be enjoyed during the summer. The bedrooms are named after local historical figures.
